Why we exist

CUPE 2137 Union is made up of the non-management members of the JVS Staff. We gain strength by standing together and we are strong if all of us find ways to contribute in our own ways.  We will soon be entering bargaining with the employer and we really want to hear from all members about the concerns and issues that are important to them. We are always looking for volunteers and members to step up and there is lots of support from the Union executive and our CUPE representative and lots of opportunities to grow and contribute.

Being employed in a unionized environment helps make your job and your workplace a more equitable and safe place to work. Through collective bargaining, your employer pays you better and is more likely to provide benefits that help you balance work with life at home. Your health and ability to do your job become important, and your right to fair treatment gets enforced.

Unions make a difference both at work and in the quality of life you earn.

Collective bargaining is a process of negotiations between the employer and their non-management staff aimed at reaching agreements to regulate working conditions.  The collective agreements reached by these negotiations sets out wage scales, working hours, training, health and safety, overtimegrievance mechanisms, and rights to participate in workplace or company affairs
